Bronx residents pitching in to help Caribbean flood victims

Many Bronx residents are doing their part to get food and supplies to flood victims in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

A Highbridge salon has organized a supply drive, with one employee saying everyone needs to do their part to help. Bronx politicians Ruben Diaz and Ruben Diaz Jr. organized a rally near Hunts Point to raise money for the Red Cross. Some Bronx residents say the relief effort is personal because they have relatives living in the affected areas.

The Caribbean floods have killed more than 1,000 people and left many more homeless in both Haiti and the Dominican Republic. To make matters worse, residents were hit with an earthquake on the Haitian-Dominican border Saturday.
