Blocked brake pedal may be to blame for crash that killed three BX parishioners

Investigators say a stainless steel coffee mug that got stuck under a brake pedal may be to blame for the deadly church van accident that killed three Bronx church parishioners and injured a pastor from White Plains.

Three members of the Gospel Assembly Church in Williamsbridge were killed Sunday when their van crashed and burst into flames near Niagara Falls. Two other passengers, including church Pastor Lloyd Blake of White Plains, were critically injured. Pastor Blake suffered a broken hip and a bruised liver among other injuries. All of the other passengers suffered minor injuries.

The Gospel Assembly Church is located at 3821 Bronxwood Avenue and has approximately 200 congregants.
