Three transfer schools to help students falling behind slated to open in the Bronx
Three new schools aimed at helping students who are falling behind are slated to open in the Bronx at the beginning of the school year.
According to the Department of Education, the schools, which are known as transfer schools, are for students 16 and over who are stuck in the ninth-grade. Education officials say those students who are falling behind will be placed in the transfer schools where they will be challenged to complete a rigorous course curriculum.
Officials say the reason why so many are opening in the Bronx is because of the high drop out rate and number of kids over the age of 16 who are still freshman.
