PSAL takes a hard look at policy regarding who makes softball playoffs
A blowout in the PSAL softball playoffs comes as the organization takes a hard look at its policy of who makes the playoffs.
Currently there are 28 teams in Class A and the PSAL allows all of the teams to advance to the postseason. That includes teams like the Petrides from Staten Island, a team that went 0-18 during the regular season. The team has also not won a game in three years.
Meantime, Lehman High School hosted the Petrides in the first round of playoffs. The lady Lions scored 18 runs in the first inning. The game was eventually called due to the mercy rule, giving Lehman a 19-0 victory. Lehman now advances to the second round.
