Monroe Eagles top George Washington to win H.S. PSAL 'A' baseball championship

(06/12/04) FLUSHING, QUEENS - James Monroe High School's baseball team, ranked #1 in both the city and in New York state, brought back the city PSAL 'A' baseball championship to The Bronx Friday night. They shut out the George Washington Trojans, ranked #2 in the city and #7 in the state, 4-0.

Eagles' all-star pitcher Danny Almonte threw a complete game one-hitter, struck out 11 and was named MVP. Slugger Alberto Santos Jr. knocked in two of Monroe's four runs.

It was the third time in five years that the Eagles won the city title in baseball. More than 5,000 fans watched the game, which was played at Shea Stadium.
