More than 1 in 4 BX third-graders in Districts 7, 9, and 12 fail standardized tests

The Department of Education released a breakdown of the results of the standardized English and math tests. More than one in four Bronx third-graders in Districts Seven, Nine and 12 failed.

At P.S. 220, more than 60 percent failed the reading and half of the students failed the math test. The citywide exams are mandatory for third-graders and those who failed will have to re-take the tests in summer school. Some Bronx parents blame overcrowding while others have called the test bias.

Students who fail either test again will not be allowed to move on to the fourth-grade.
