Plan to build a new five-story Kips Bay Boys and Girls facility becomes a reality

A plan to build a new five-story Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club facility is moving forward.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday at the former site of the Hebrew Institute, which is where the new clubhouse will be located. The new facility will include high speed Internet access on every floor.

The project should be complete in two years and will cost more than $9 million. Funding for the project will come from public and private sources.

The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club was established in the early 1900's in the Kips Bay section of Manhattan. The club moved to the Bronx to help kids with numerous after-school activities in the late 1960's.
