Some Throgs Neck residents upset with Con Edison after recent blackout

A power outage in Throgs Neck Wednesday afternoon has some residents questioning Con Edison's reliability.

The outage, which lasted a few hours, affected approximately 3,000 homes. Some residents say they would like an explanation from Con Edison as to why blackouts occur frequently during the summer months. They say they pay their bills on time, but the power usually goes out about twice a month between April and September.

Con Edison says Wednesday's outage was caused by possible problems with a supply feeder through the area. The power company attributes a blackout earlier this month, in which power was restored within 90 minutes, to a nearby manhole fire.

Con Edison says including Wednesday's outage, there have been only three blackouts in Throgs Neck since January. They say this latest incident was not heat related.
