Recycling fines begin in the Bronx and city as grace period comes to an end

If you don't sort it, you will pay the price. That's what Bronx and city residents can expect if they don't begin recycling.

The city gave residents a 60-day grace period to get in the swing of recycling once again after the program was re-instated by Mayor Bloomberg. As of July 1, there are no more excuses for not sorting your trash. Those who are caught not recycling will be hit with a minimum fine of $25.

So here's what residents need to do. Glass, plastic, beverage cartons or drink boxes, metal, and foil must all be placed in clear bags or blue containers. Mixed paper and cardboard must go in clear bags or green containers. Everything else gets thrown in the regular garbage.
