E. Coli outbreak forces a Bronx day care center to shut down

An E. Coli outbreak at a Bronx day care center sent three kids to the hospital and forced the center to shut down.

Parents whose children attend the For Kids Only Day Care and Nursery say the center was shut down Tuesday following an E. Coli outbreak. Some parents say they are concerned while others believe the center has everything under control.

The New York City Health Department is currently investigating another confirmed case of E. Coli in a child who does not attend the center. Health officials say parents should be on the lookout for symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea that becomes bloody, fever and irritability. They say the infection is caused by poor hand washing, handling of diapers and unsafe food preparation.

A Department of Health spokesperson says the day care center is expected to reopen some time next week.
