Residents join fight to rid Kingsbridge and Riverdale of gypsy cabs

Residents, police and elected officials are trying to rid Kingsbridge and Riverdale of gypsy cabs once and for all.

Police in the 50th Precinct along with residents and officials say gypsy cabs have been a problem for a long time. They say the cab drivers pester people, trying to get them to accept rides.

Gypsy cabs are illegal, and according to police getting into one can be dangerous. Police say gypsy cab drivers are not registered with the Taxi and Limousine Commission, many don't have proper insurance and often they are operating cars with a suspended license.

Police are continuing to crack down on the gypsy cab drivers by issuing fines. Some drivers have even been arrested.
