Bronx residents feel unsafe at night with no lights in Claremont Park

Bronx residents say they feel unsafe at night in Claremont Park with no lights.

Residents say for the past few months some of the lights inside the park have not been working. According to residents, there is crime and some homeless people sleeping in the park at night adding to their fear of walking through the park without lights. Some say they use the park for recreation with their children at night, while others say they walk through the park as a shortcut.

The Department of Transportation, which is in charge of light maintenance, says vandals have tampered with the park lights. NYPD officials told News 12 The Bronx they have increased police presence at the park.
