Casa del Sol community group to fight Mott Haven building eviction in court

(07/10/04) MOTT HAVEN - A Bronx community group says they will be back in Bronx Supreme Court on Monday fighting to stay in a building they took over more than a decade ago.

Members of Casa del Sol say they have helped improve the lives of Bronx residents living in the Mott Haven community. The goal was once to turn the building into a cultural arts center, but now Casa del Sol has been fighting eviction ever since the city handed ownership over to affordable housing developers, ACORN.

Monday's court date will probably not be the last. City officials have told News 12 The Bronx that legal struggles over the building could last well more than a year. ACORN officials could not be reached for comment.
