NY beats NJ in 7th annual Governor's Bowl All-Star Football Classic
(07/10/04) WEST POINT - New York beat New Jersey 23-6 in the 7th annual Governor's Bowl All-Star Football Classic, thanks to six turnovers by the Jersey squad.
The contest pits the best high school football stars from each state against each other. This year's game was played at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Before New York's victory on Saturday, the Garden State had beaten New York five of the last six years. Saturday's win is only New York's second win in the history of the annual game.
Columbus High School star Dowayne Davis was the only Bronx athlete named to New York's squad. He had four tackles, including two solo ones, helping lead the Empire State to victory.
