Cop struck by car after traffic stop in University Heights suffers minor injuries

(07/11/04) UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - A Bronx police officer was run-over early Sunday morning after attempting to stop a car on Fordham Road in the University Heights Section, near the 207th Street Bridge.

Officers assigned to the Bronx Anti-Crime Unit pulled over the driver of a Honda Civic for running a red light. As the cops approached the car, the driver sped away. The car hit one of the officers, sending him to the hospital with arm injuries. He is in stable condition.

So far no arrests have been made. Police are looking for a gray Honda Civic coupe with New York license plates. They do not have the exact year. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (1-800) 577-TIPS (8477).
