First ever Bronx Technology Day helps residents learn computer skills

(07/17/04) UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - Bronx residents who may not be comfortable with technology were given the chance to get cozy with computers on Saturday at the first ever Bronx Technology Day.

Members of the group that organized the fair, Per Scholas, say their goal is to make computers accessible to all Bronx families. The day-long event was held at the Bronx Community College. It offered free computer instruction, and a free computer was raffled off every hour. There were also arts and crafts classes using recycled computer parts.

Four more Bronx technology fairs are in the works for this year. The next one is planned for November.

Folks who want more information about low cost computers can call Per Scholas at (718) 991-8400.
