Several summer camps held for Bronx high school and college basketball stars

(07/17/04) THE BRONX - With high schools and colleges out of session during the summer months, basketball players take to streets and the many tournaments and basketball camps within The Bronx.

Some of best basketball camps in the country are held at local Bronx high schools. For instance, the Cardinal Spellman basketball camp is a week-long session run by Falcons coach Fred Opper. There are about 80 boys ages 8 to 17 at the camp.

Each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the players go from station to station learning and working on the fundamentals of the game: shooting, passing, dribbling and rebounding. There is a great deal of individual instruction at Cardinal Spellman's basketball camp.
