Trucks traveling through Hunts Point required to follow new routes

A plan by the Department of Transportation to alleviate truck traffic in the South Bronx has been set in motion. Starting Wednesday, trucks traveling in and out of Hunts Point must now follow new routes.

Truck drivers who get off the Bruckner local road must now use commercial roads rather than roads that cut through residential areas. The new routes will keep trucks on Barry, Dupont and Truxton streets as well as on Oak Point Avenue. Trucks traveling from the south will have to use Leggett Avenue and those coming from the north must use Tiffany Street.

DOT and the NYPD tell News 12 The Bronx that truck drivers who don't follow the new routes will be fined.
