Companies bid for former hospital building in Pelham Bay

(07/24/04) PELHAM BAY - It has been six months since a Bronx hospital shut its doors for good in Pelham Bay. The future of Our Lady of Mercy's d'Urso Pavilion is expected to be announced in the near future.

A spokesperson for the former hospital tells News 12 The Bronx that officials are considering two offers -- either an assisted living center for the elderly or a residential development. They say they closed the Pelham Bay center because not enough people were using it, but some people who have depended on the facility say they want their hospital to re-open.

There are three hospitals in the area that Bronx residents can use: Weiler/Einstein, New York Westchester and Jacobi Medical Center.
