Well-known BX political figure announces he's seeking Senate seat once again
Pedro Espada Jr. announced Tuesday that he is once again entering the political world by running for the 32nd District Senate seat, which he lost two years ago to Ruben Diaz.
Espada, who is head of the Soundview Health Care Network, is a well-known figure in the Bronx who had a very public falling out with the Democrats in the borough. Before leaving the Senate he began siding with Republicans but never formally renounced his status as a Democrat. He's also been accused of improperly funneling money from his health care network into his campaign.
So far, there is no word as to what party Espada will be running under. He says this time around he plans to focus on education funding for Bronx schools.
