Some Bronx youths say they were not paid by employment program

(08/03/04) HUNTS POINT - Some young Bronx residents who received jobs through the Summer Youth Employment Program are claiming that they have not been paid.

Despite getting a job through the program, some residents claim they were not paid along with everyone else on July 30. Those making the claim say when they called representatives of the program, they were told nothing could be done to fix the situation.

A spokesperson for the Summer Youth Employment Program says some youngsters were not paid because they began working before they were fully enrolled. Program representatives say that everyone who did not receive a check the first time around will be paid on August 13.

The spokesperson also told News 12 the Bronx that out of 33,000 children enrolled in the program, 72 did not receive checks at the end of July.
