Judge appoints advisors to work with lawmakers on Bronx, city school reforms

(08/03/04) THE BRONX - A State Supreme Court Judge announced Tuesday the appointment of three advisors to work with lawmakers on providing proper funding to Bronx and city schools.

The Campaign for Fiscal Equality (FSE) sued New York State 10 years ago over improper funding for city schools. FSE eventually won that case, but lawmakers missed their July deadline for coming up with a plan on how the school funding system should be reformed.

State Supreme Court Justice Leland DeGrasse appointed two retired judges and the former dean of Fordham's Law School, John D. Feerick, to work with lawmakers on coming up with a solution. The judge has set a deadline of 120 days for the issue to be resolved.
