Throgs Neck settles for second place in NYC title game

The Throgs Neck 9 and 10-year-olds were defeated Thursday in 11-0 defeat by the South Shore of Staten Island in the Section 3 championship title game. The game seemed over before it started as the South Shore jumped out to an early five run lead in the first. Niko Alvarez pitched a flawless game and proved to be too much for Throgs Neck. The game ended due to the 10-run mercy rule after a three-run homer by Danny Mauro. South Shore from Staten Island is the new Section 3 champion. Throgs Neck, the last remaining Bronx youth team in state Little League Championship play, takes the second place title.
