Operation Impact helping to cut crime in BX areas policed by the 52nd Precinct
Operation Impact is helping to fight crime in areas of the Bronx that are policed by the 52nd Precinct.
The program, which puts more officers in high crime areas, has been in the Bronx for more than a year. In the 52nd Precinct, there are two impact zones. In January, 25 more officers were added to patrol the business and residential district just north of 183rd Street. The increased patrol has resulted in a 30 percent reduction in crime in that area says Mayor Bloomberg.
Overall, the NYPD says rapes, auto thefts and murders have gone down in neighborhoods patrolled by the 52nd Precinct. The 52nd Precinct is the busiest command in the city. The mayor says police officers in that precinct responded to 90,000 911 calls last year.
