Routine traffic stop in the BX turns into shootout between police and suspect

A routine traffic stop Tuesday morning in the Bronx led to a shootout between police and an armed man.

According to police, two officers pulled over a livery cab for failing to signal. At that time police say two men jumped out of the back of the cab and one of them had a gun. Police then fired hitting the armed suspect twice in the leg.

The injured suspect is in stable condition. Both suspects were arrested, and a 9-millimeter handgun was recovered at the scene. The cab driver was unharmed in the incident.
