Public advocate visits some Bronx apartment complexes to check conditions

Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum was in the Bronx Tuesday and visited some Bronx apartment buildings to check on the conditions.

At one of her stops, Gotbaum found that the owner of two buildings on the Grand Concourse has improved conditions since her last visit. She found that repairs requested by the tenants were made. Despite being pleased, Gotbaum says there are still a few things the landlord needs to improve.

Over at the Twin Parks Complex on Southern Boulevard, Gotbaum was concerned by what she found. Tenants have been complaining about graffiti, leaks, holes in the plaster that allow rodents to come into their apartments and exposed electrical wires in the playground. Gotbaum says she is going to put pressure on the landlord to make the repairs before someone gets hurt.

Gotbaum says her visit to the Bronx is part of an ongoing effort to expose neglectful landlords.
