Thousands of new teachers prepare for the new school year in the BX and city

Nearly 6,000 new teachers will hit the classroom this upcoming school year and they say they can't wait.

Schools Chancellor Joel Klein spoke to the group Friday. He says only the best made the cut from among 60,000 applicants. There are teachers from different countries starting this year, adding to the diverse population in city schools.

Also addressing the crowd was union president Randi Weingarten, who warned that there would be challenges ahead.

Overall, the teachers left excited and eager to meet their new students.
