New federal overtime rule to affect thousands of Bronx workers

The new federal overtime rule, which takes effect Monday, is about to change things for thousands of Bronx workers.

Right now it's not clear as to how the new rule will affect workers, but basically thousands may now be eligible for overtime pay while thousands of other workers may lose their overtime eligibility.

According to the Department of Labor, those who make less than 23,660 qualify for overtime and administrative positions may not qualify for overtime.

The Bush administration prompted the new overtime rule in an effort to limit the number of multimillion-dollar lawsuits filed by workers who claim they were cheated out of overtime pay after working more than 40 hours.
