Mayor invites shoppers to visit the new River Plaza Mall in Marble Hill

Mayor Bloomberg encouraged shoppers to spend money in the city rather than in Westchester or New Jersey at the grand opening of the River Plaza Mall in Marble Hill.

The $90 million mall houses Target, Marshalls and Applebees with many stores on the way. Lawmakers are hoping the mall will bring an economic boost to the area. The mall is also expected to create more than a thousand jobs.

Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. says the mall creates a better opportunity for the next generation.

Meantime, from Tuesday, August 31 through Labor Day, shoppers will not have to pay a portion of the sales tax on items that cost lest than $110.
