BX residents worried about traffic during the Republican National Convention

When the Republican National Convention comes to town next week, residents in the Bronx are expecting a traffic nightmare.

The RNC kicks off on Monday, August 30 and although only streets around Madison Square Garden are closed, residents believe the effects will be felt in the Bronx. Some feel the worst traffic will be on the Cross Bronx Expressway, where delays on the West Side Highway can bring traffic to a standstill.

To help ease congestion during the convention, the city will not be closing any lanes for construction on Bronx Highways. Liberty Lines Express will run its 7th Avenue buses down 5th Avenue instead and there will be no changes to New York Bus Service.

City officials say the best bet for getting into Manhattan is by subway. They are also advising commuters to leave extra time during the week of the convention.
