Riverdale residents calling on city to make a major intersection safer
Residents in Riverdale are calling on city officials to make a major intersection safer following five accidents this year alone.
The residents say the intersection of 230th Street and Tibbett Avenue is a dangerous place. Part of the problem is drivers running red lights in an area surrounded by a gas station, several car washes, a handful of auto repair shops and two high schools.
City officials say there were at least nine accidents at the intersection in 2003 and five this year. The Department of Transportation did have plans to add dedicated turning lanes but when the lines were drawn storeowners protested.
The project has since been put on hold and there are no plans to re-evaluate the intersection until November.
