Girls high school hoops stars prepare for season with 'Slam-Jam' tournament
(08/29/04) RIVERBANK STATE PARK - Some girls high school basketball stars from around the city prepare for the upcomingseason with the 14th annual Clyde Frazier Jr. Memorial Slam-Jam Women's Fall Classic. Twenty of the best AAU girls programs from the Bronx and around the city compete in the games.
The tournament is named after the girls hoops star who was killed on 9/11. It is played from August through October and is considered a preview of the upcoming high school girls basketball season.
Each team plays a total of 10 games and then possible playoff games. Recently, Kips Bay Elite fell to 2-1 in the tournament with a loss to the Unique All-Stars from Queens, 45-31. Some members from Lehman also participated in some games. They were able to defeat the Douglas Panthers from Queens 31-26 to improve to 2-1 so far.
