Mount Eden tour offers teachers insight into their students' struggles

(09/01/04) MOUNT EDEN - Teachers from P.S. 64 took a walking tour of neighborhoods in Mount Eden Wednesday to get a better understanding of the resources available to students.

Some stops on the tour included the library, community centers, cultural sites and mental health resources. Teachers say the tour helped them better understand the struggles their students face, and offered them a window into a different lifestyle. The majority of children attending P.S. 64 come from an underprivileged backgrounds.

The school activist group that organized the teachers outing is planning additional tours throughout District 9 in September.
