Evander Childs, Cardinal Spellman prepare for regular season in final scrimmage

(09/05/04) CARDINAL SPELLMAN H.S. - With one week to go before the high school football season, two Bronx teams squared off in their final pre-season game. It was Bronx vs. Bronx and public school vs. Catholic school as the Evander Childs Tigers visited the Cardinal Spellman Falcons on Saturday.

Early on, Spellman was in control. But Evander's Julian Richards scored three touchdowns, and the Tigers won the Bronx battle 20-6.

Evander opens its regular season next Saturday with a non-league game against John Adams. Spellman starts its season next Saturday at home against Bishop Ford. All catholic and public high school teams are in action this Saturday, and Mount St. Michael vs. Fordham Prep is expected to be the game of the week.
