New report by Senator Schumer finds Bronx schools are strapped for cash

A new report issued by Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) warns that Bronx public schools may not have enough funding for basic programs and supplies.

Schumer claims the federal government is not living up to its promises. He says the government is paying less than half of what it promised for such programs as special education.

According to Schumer, Bronx schools are struggling to balance their budgets and are often forced to cut extra programs like art, music and after-school programs.

Schumer says he plans to ask for money to help Bronx schools but admits there is no guarantee his request will be granted. Schumer says in addition to the Bronx, schools in the city, Westchester and Long Island are also being shortchanged.
