Report shows thousands in BX having trouble putting food on the table

New statistics released by the Food Bank of New York City show that thousands in the Bronx are having trouble putting food on the table.

The statistics also show that the Bronx has the highest number of residents in the city that are going hungry. The Food Bank says more than 200,000 are at risk in the Bronx. Food Bank officials believe the number is high because there are many sections of the Bronx not being served by special programs that already exist.

The president of the Food Bank says she hopes to implement task forces that could concentrate on the particular needs of each of the boroughs. She says the long-term goal is to combine public funds and private funds in an effort to combat hunger.
