Small businesses closing in Throgs Neck becoming a growing trend
A string of stores in the Throgs Neck have closed due to the high cost of rent, which officials believe is part of a growing trend.
According to the district manager of Community Board 10, small businesses folding in the area has become a disturbing trend. James Vacca says some mom and pop shop owners have complained to his office that high rents are forcing them out.
The landlord of the building where two stores recently closed said his rents are not too high. He blames the lack of parking on the loss of business.
Residents hope new stores open up soon and actually stay. Some say if they had a choice they would love to see a bookstore move into the area.
