Workers at a Mott Haven church busy pumping out water following heavy rainfall

The heavy rainfall Wednesday has left workers at one Mott Haven church with their hands full as they try to clean up the flood left in the basement.

The basement at the Fordham Gospel Church on Alexander Avenue was completely flooded; a problem officials there say is a regular occurrence. They say they have been dealing with flooding for the past 15 years. There is concern because electrical problems have occurred due to the flooding, and the building is also home to three families.

According to officials at the church, the vacant building next door is causing the flooding problem. They want the city to do something to fix the situation.
