Confusion looms as Bronx high school students face enrollment problems

School started this week in the Bronx, but many students are faced with missing classes because the high school enrollment process is disorganized and confusing, according to their parents.

More than 100 parents waited on line at the Bronx High School of Science enrollment office to get their kids registered for classes but problems have persisted. According to Bronx Public Advocate Betsy Gottbaum, these problems are specific to the borough.

But Department of Education Chancellor Joel Klein says the enrollment process isn't to blame, it is the handling of the transfer requests that have flooded in that is causing the confusion. Klein says there is no real solution to the problem, and it won't go away until there are enough good high schools in New York.

Parents say they may have to send their kids to schools outside of the Bronx if the problem isn't solved soon.
