Pedro Espada Jr. concedes the race for District 32 state Senate seat

Pedro Espada Jr. conceded the race for District 32 state Senate seat before the official primary results were in. Espada said it was clear incumbent Ruben Diaz Jr. would receive the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat.

After conceding, Espada thanked all the voters for participating in the primary and congratulated Diaz on his nomination. Many voters thought the race for District 32 state Senate seat would be a close one. However, Espada said he did not have the backing of the Bronx Democratic Party.

Espada had been the three-time Democratic state Senator before he lost in the 2002 state primary to Diaz. He says he will now take some time off to spend it with his family.
