City proposes placing height restrictions on new buildings going up in Riverdale

A new zoning plan proposed by the city's Planning Commission is taking aim at new high-rise buildings going up in Riverdale.

Under the proposal, new buildings in sections of Central Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil will not be allowed to exceed between six and nine stories. Right now there is a building set to go up on Arlington Avenue that may top 20 stories, something not all residents are happy about.

One resident says she wants the rezoning law approved, hoping it will help Riverdale keep its charm.

The proposal must pass through the City Council first and then be approved by the mayor. If the rezoning plan passes, current construction projects will not be affected.
