Starlite Dance Studio temporarily moving from Morris Park to Throgs Neck

(09/18/04) MORRIS PARK - A popular Bronx dance school is switching locations after neighbors in Morris Park complained they wanted them out.

The curtain has temporarily been pulled at Starlite Dance Studio as parents and students head into their fall season. They are discussing plans to start at a new location.

Beginning next week, Starlite will be renting space from Maria's Dynamic Dance Studio in Throgs Neck. Owner Maria Marino offered Starlite space after reading about them in the newspaper.

Starlite owner David Melendez, who still owns the Morris Park building and actually lives there, says he is currently unsure about whether he will keep fighting for the studio to stay in his neighborhood.

Neighbors had complained about double parking, loitering, and loud salsa music coming from the school. It was then discovered that zoning laws do not permit a dance studio at its location. Melendez tried to get the proper building permits to stay open, but so far he has been unsuccessful.
