Mayor unveils new strategy in Belmont to fight homelessness citywide

Mayor Michael Bloomberg unveiled a new strategy Wednesday to fight homelessness in the Bronx and city.

The mayor's plan of attack is to fight the problem before it starts. Part of that mission involves the opening of Homebase Counseling Centers citywide. There will be six total, one of which will be based in Belmont. The centers are designed to help people avoid becoming homeless by offering legal help, job placement services and financial assistance to help pay rent and mortgages.

Mayor Bloomberg says he plans to reduce homelessness citywide by 2/3 over the next five years.
