Homeowners in the Bronx face fines under new sanitation laws

Starting Monday, homeowners in the Bronx who fail to keep the sidewalks and portion of the street in front of their residence tidy will be fined.

Under the new sanitation law Local Law 9, residents are responsible for the garbage on sidewalks and a foot and a half into the street. It's part of an effort by the city and Department of Sanitation to cut down on litter.

Residents who don't comply will be fined. The enforcement hours are between 8 and 9 a.m., and noon to 1 p.m.
