Department of Education extends school transfer deadline in Bronx and city

Parents in the Bronx and across the city have been given more time to submit a request to have their child transferred to another school.

The Department of Education announced Monday it was extending the deadline to October 4. One Bronx parent said the extra time would help because the process of submitting a transfer request has become time consuming.

Despite the extension, Schools Chancellor Joel Klein says many Bronx and city students will not get the transfers they request because of the high demand at certain schools.
