Mayor joins Pataki to announce the building of a water filtration plant in the BX

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor George Pataki (R-NY) officially announced Thursday the building of a water filtration plant at Van Cortlandt Park.

The plan, which has been met with opposition, passed through the City Council by a 45-5 vote with one council member not voting. The plant is going to be built underneath the Mosholu Golf Course.

Bloomberg and Pataki focused their announcement on the fact that $220 million will be going to Bronx parks in exchange for the plant being built in the borough. Despite the promise of funding, many in the north Bronx are still opposed to the project.
