Second annual Bronx charity walk to help fight diabetes held in Van Cortlandt Park

(10/03/04) VAN CORTLANDT PARK - Hundreds of people attended a fundraiser walk in Van Cortlandt Park Sunday to raise money for research to find a cure for diabetes. The disease strikes in the Bronx more often than in any other borough.

The second annual event specifically raised money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. Deputy Borough President Earl Brown joined the marchers.

Organizers hope this year's walk raised $200,000 for juvenile diabetes research, and they hope to inspire more people to participate next year. The Bronx walk is one of about 200 for the same purpose happening around the country this weekend.
