Immaculate Conception school students get their own Bronx playground

(10/03/04) OLINVILLE - Immaculate Conception school students will no longer have to play in the streets. After four years of planning and building, they finally get their own Bronx playground on East Gun Hill Road.

Hundreds of people turned out for the dedication ceremony Sunday to see the new green space, which is nearly 18,000 square feet. The playground was made possible through alumni donations, the patrons program and other organizations. The Bronx Catholic school has been educating students for more than half century, but the school had never had its own park before.

The patrons programs, which helped get the playground constructed, is also working on another Bronx project -- a library at Our Lady of Solace. That project is expected to be completed next month.
