Bronx residents fear changes to Section 8 could make vouchers worthless
Bronx residents who rely on Section 8 housing subsidies say they fear possible changes to the program by the federal government.
The Bush administration along with Congress have recently said they want to rework the formula that determines the value of subsidies. Section 8 housing vouchers are given to low-income families who qualify. The families can then use the vouchers to pay a certain percentage of rent.
Residents are worried though that the federal government's plan could make the vouchers worthless by raising their value on surveys that indicate falling market rents in cities.
