Health department offers tips for Bronx parents looking for a day care center

With records showing that not all Bronx day care centers that have been cited for violations have actually corrected the problems, the Department of Health has some tips parents can follow when looking for a safe place for their child.

According to the state Office of Children and Family Services, nearly 140 home-based day care sites in the city have unresolved serious violations. Some of the sites are located in the Bronx.

The Department of Health says parents should look for things such as whether their children are supervised all the time both indoors and outdoors, are all walls and equipment free of peeling paint, and is the day care center's current license visible.

Parents who would like to report a day care center can call 311. Health officials say they will investigate every complaint received.
